Can I make it as WoWs Iron Lady?

A while ago I tweeted saying that I was considering taking part in the WoW Ironman Challenge. I had a few encouraging tweets back and a load of helpful hints and tips from various people. I finally decided to take the plunge. It just so happened that the UK's own iron lady Margaret Thatcher died earlier this week and hence inspired the title - impeccable timing Maggie!

What is the WoW Ironman Challenge?
I'm sure a lot of you will have heard of the WoW Ironman Challenge and some of you may even have taken part in it. It is a community run challenge that essentially see's the competitor attempt to level a character to max level without dying! There's a whole suite of rules that can be found on the website but I'd sum these up as being: only white or grey gear, no enhancements (gems, enchants, external buffs, flasks etc), no friends (i.e. guild, groups or things that involves groups - dungeons etc), no profs (except first aid) and no talent points/glyphs/class specialisations.

Why am I doing it?
I've been thinking about doing it for a while now. I think it's the idea of setting myself an in-game challenge that really will be a challenge for me. Too often I have found myself in the situation where I've ran into a mob, then thought and realised that I've pulled to many or just can't handle them all and have died. In short, I hope(d) that taking part in the challenge will help me curb my think later approach.
What class?
My boyfriend and @Manglehaft both informed me that they both had either heard or believed a ranged class with a pet was the most suited to the challenge. So, you'd think hunter or maybe a warlock right? But what happens when your main is a hunter and you have a 'lock who has definately died a number of times and don't want to roll either class again? I decided to think about what class I don't have and want - and that was, a paladin! The reason I'm rolling a class that I want as opposed to what I think will do best is because I've decided to do the challenge on my home server Dragonblight-EU. If I fail the challenge my character won't be deleted but rather kept and later leveled (but not as part of the challenge obviously).

The stats page, on the website, shows the dominance of hunters when it comes to class distribution!

Meet Delphzin!
Target #1
I've decided to break the challenge up into mini-stages and by doing this I should hit atleast one target *fingers crossed*. My first target is to reach level 10. I know, I know - it's not exactly hard but if I'm honest I doubt I've ever made it to level 10 on a character without dying once! Also, at level 10 character's become viewable on the armoury and my character will be able to be tracked.

On with the challenge...
I will be carrying out the challenge in my spare time in dribs and drabs so it could take a while. I intend to blog when I complete each of my targets as a way of updating you and to set my next target.
I'll look into creating a tab at the top of my blog in which I will link any posts relating to the challenge as well as general notes on my progress etc. When I reach level 10 I will link my armoury page so if you want you can keep a track of my gear and progress.

  1. Good luck with your ironman! I will admit that I find the challenge daunting. I tend to die an awful lot on my toons. But usually more to falling off cliffs then to pulling too much. Kudos and good Luck

  4. Awesome challenge, good luck!

Mr B tried this with a Panda - got to a quest at level 10 and died. He was gutted and hasn't tried it since. Shame really.

I think you'll have great fun, enjoying the quests as well instead of rushing through. Keep us updated!

    1. Thanks. I'll definately be doing regular updates etc. Well if I get to level 10 I'll be happy. I think I'll be pretty gutted when I die - especially if it's a moment of stupidity or at a high level (if I make it that far!).
